An Estimation of Local Residual Stresses in Amorphous and Crystallized Trivalent Chromium Coatings

چکیده
Hard chromium coatings have demonstrated their performance for several decades, particularly wear and corrosion resistance properties. However, the traditional process using trioxide (CrO3) is very toxic intended to disappear in European Union by 2024, thanks REACH regulation. This study aimed determine residual stress of amorphous deposits elaborated from baths containing trivalent ions. structure these does not allow determination stresses conventional means. In this study, we propose adapting a recent method called “FIB-DIC”, which limited material’s crystalline compared classical X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The based on measurement relaxation-induced displacement fields following ablation material local scale. results obtained FIB-DIC crystallized heat-treated Cr(III) are 296 ± 45 377 275 MPa. Then, technique allowed us evaluate level 479 359 MPa coating, has never been performed before.

Anisotropic residual stresses in partially crystallized Li2O±2SiO2 glass-ceramics
Levels of residual stresses in partially crystallized Li2O±2SiO2 glass-ceramics were calculated for several crystallographic planes. The stresses were also determined by an X-ray diraction method (XRD) using synchrotron radiation. The linear thermal expansion coecient (ahkl) of a fully crystallized, stress-free, powdered sample, was measured in situ using a hot-stage XRD technique. The therma...

Chromium carbide – nickel chromium powder Cr3C2-25wt.NiCr was plasma sprayed by a water-stabilized system WSP®. A series of experiments with variable feeding distance was carried out. Basic characterization of coatings was done by XRD, SEM and light microscopy plus image analysis. Microhardness was measured on polished cross sections. The main focus of investigation was on resistances against w...
متن کاملPerformance Properties of Trivalent Chromium
A trivalent chromium electroplating process has been io use commercially in North America since its introduction in 1975. Based upon years of laboratory and in-plant experience and testing, many process performance characteristics and physical properties of deposits have been determined. This paper compares the performance of trivalent chromium with hexavalent chromium processes. Factors such a...
متن کاملConnecting Local Yield Stresses with Plastic Activity in Amorphous Solids.
In model amorphous solids produced via differing quench protocols, a strong correlation is established between local yield stress measured by direct local probing of shear stress thresholds and the plastic rearrangements observed during remote loading in shear. This purely local measure shows a higher predictive power for identifying sites of plastic activity when compared with more conventiona...
